The Father's Love So Precious
Feb 14, 2023Many hymnologists believe Swedish-born hymn writer, Karolina Sandell - Berg wrote "Children of the Heavenly Father" when she was as young as seventeen years old!
By the age of 28, Karolina Sandell had lost her sister to tuberculosis, her father to drowning and finally her mother to a prolonged illness. She even endured the collapse of her husband’s business and the birth of a stillborn baby girl, their only child.
And yet, she continued to write hymns expressing love to her Heavenly Father and declaring His love for us.
One particular line in Karolina's hymn reminds us that God's love remains constant no matter what.
"What He takes or what He gives us shows the Father’s love so precious.”
Children of the Heavenly Father
by Karolina Sandell-Berg
Children of the heav’nly Father
safely in his bosom gather;
nestling bird nor star in heaven
such a refuge e’er was given.
God his own doth tend and nourish;
in his holy courts they flourish.
From all evil things he spares them;
in his mighty arms he bears them.
Neither life nor death shall ever
from the Lord his children sever;
unto them his grace he showeth,
and their sorrows all he knoweth.
Though he giveth or he taketh,
God his children ne’er forsaketh;
his the loving purpose solely
to preserve them pure and holy.
