A Hymn for Election Day
Nov 05, 2024On Friday my husband came home from the church early and we walked from the parsonage up to the county courthouse to vote early. This was small-town living at it's best.
The sun was shining, it felt like fall, there were colorful leaves on the trees lining the sidewalk. All seemed right with the world.
I wondered how long that feeling would last in today's political climate and obvious spiritual warfare happening. Then I reminded myself once more that when it seems like things are falling apart, things are really falling into place. God's plan for our glorious future is unfolding before our eyes!
But, admittedly, my "feelings bag" has still been mixed whenever I start thinking about the election.That is until Sunday.
We closed the singing part of our worship service with a triumphant hymn and as the election crossed my mind, I only had one feeling: joy! The Lord is King no matter what and we have every reason to rejoice!
By all means, get out and vote — that's you taking part of God's plan — but as believers, we do it rememberting that "the keys of death and hell" belong to Jesus who is our good and righteous King.
May this be the most joyful election day ever for you — no matter what.
Rejoice, the Lord Is King!
by Charles Wesley, 1744
Rejoice, the Lord is King:
Your Lord and King adore!
Rejoice, give thanks and sing,
And triumph evermore.
Lift up your heart,
Lift up your voice!
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!
Jesus, the Savior, reigns,
The God of truth and love;
When He has purged our stains,
He took his seat above;
Lift up your heart,
Lift up your voice!
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!
His kingdom cannot fail,
He rules o'er earth and heav'n;
The keys of death and hell
Are to our Jesus giv'n:
Lift up your heart,
Lift up your voice!
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!
Rejoice in glorious hope!
Our Lord and judge shall come
And take His servants up
To their eternal home:
Lift up your heart,
Lift up your voice!
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!
