A Hymn for Cold and Flu Season

Dec 05, 2022

Ugh. Don't you just hate it when you feel a cold or flu coming on? And 'tis the season right now.

When we're sick, it's hard to think spiritually about anything, but a good hymn — just like a good night's sleep and plenty of fluids — can work wonders.

Getting sick is part of the curse that fell on the whole world when sin first entered it. So not only do we battle with spiritual sickness, we battle with physical sickness, too.

There Is a Balm in Gilead is a spiritual rooted in Jeremiah 8:22 that reminds us that there is a cure for both.

Some of this cure we experience here on earth (hallelujah and pass the cold meds), but we'll experience all of the cure when Christ returns and makes everything right again!

There Is a Balm In Gilead

There is a balm in Gilead
to make the wounded whole,
there is a balm in Gilead
to heal the sin-sick soul.

Sometimes I feel discouraged
and think my work's in vain,
but then the Holy Spirit
revives my soul again.

If you cannot preach like Peter,
if you cannot pray like Paul,
you can tell the love of Jesus
and say, "He died for all."
